New Staff Shoutouts!

Clara Brown, Paraprofessional

What inspired you to work in education?

-I've wanted to work in education since I was in junior high. I want to look out for the kids who struggle in school, either educationally or socially, because I was that kid who just needed that extra support, and didn't get it.

What's one thing you're excited to learn in this role?

-I've always been excited to learn about the students. I enjoy learning about who they are because each one has something unique to share.

Why do you like GMS?

I've been excited to work for Gering Public Schools for a long time, I had some friends from Gering who had many good things to say about GPS. GMS was a great choice because I'm working on my secondary degree in mathematics. Since starting here, I've felt very welcome by staff and students, and especially enjoy getting to sub in the classrooms.

What do we love about Clara?

-We love that she is always willing to help when we are in need of her assistance. She embodies patience, kindness, and resilience. We are excited to have her on the GMS team,

Avery Clason,  JAG Teacher

How long have you been teaching? What subjects have you taught?

I have been teaching for about a year and have taught English 9 and Podcasts as Literature.

Favorite hobbies?

I enjoy reading, writing, watching movies, and horseback riding.

Why do you like GMS?

Something I really love about GMS is the kind and supportive staff I have met in the short amount of time I've been here!

Bethany Gress, SLP

What inspired you to work in education?

I come from a big family of teachers and educators, so I guess it's in my genes! I've always enjoyed working with kids ever since I started babysitting as a teen, and that passion and drive to be a positive person in a child's life has led me to where I am now.

What's one thing you're excited to learn in this role?

I am so grateful to be back at GMS after a year away working with our district's preschool population. I am excited to reconnect with the students I worked with previously plus get to know and build relationships with the students that are new to me this year.

Favorite hobbies?

I love to read, crochet, travel, go to concerts, and spend time with my husband and our 3 fur babies either going on hikes or just relaxing at home.

Why do you like GMS?

The people! Our staff are supportive of each other and our students, and our kids are seriously the best. Working with the middle school population is so much fun, and there is never a dull moment :)
